Mahomes, Chiefs again come back from down 10-plus

Patrick Mahomes again led his team back from a double-digit deficit on Sunday. This time, he did it against the No. 1-ranked defense in the NFL in the San Francisco 49ers.

Mahomes and the Chiefs were down 10-0 before the team rallied back and dropped 44 points on the No. 2 scoring defense to complete the comeback.

For Mahomes, that puts him at 13-9 when trailing by 10 or more points, a .591 win percentage. That is the best of all time, and it's not even close. Second is Tom Brad (.379) and third is Joe Montana (.370).

On Sunday, the Chiefs took on a 49ers team that got back star pass rusher Nick Bosa and added running back Christian McCaffrey in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. The 49ers were hyped and jumped out to a 10-0 lead, aided by a Mahomes interception on their first drive.

After that, the Kansas City offense cruised. They recorded 529 total yards against the 49ers, who had given up an average of 255.8 yards per outing heading into Week 7. San Francisco's defense had given up just 14.8 points in the first six weeks, and Kansas City topped that mark by 30 points.

This is the second time this season the Chiefs have come back from double digits and also the second time this season the Chiefs have scored more than 40 points against a top NFL defense.

Kansas City beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-29 after falling behind 17-0 two weeks ago and also knocked off the No. 1-ranked defense in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 41-31 in Week 4.
