FRISCO, Texas — Safety Malik Hooker and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown did not practice Wednesday for the Dallas Cowboys, according to the team’s first injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Hooker is listed with a forearm injury and Overshown with a hamstring injury.
Outside linebacker James Houston was limited with a shoulder injury. Tackle Ajani Cornelius was a full participant with a knee injury.
Hooker had surgery Tuesday on the fracture he sustained in the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Dallas was hoping for a two-week window, and Hooker is not expected to need injured reserve. Hooker played 12 defensive snaps and made 1 tackle before leaving late in the third quarter.
Schottenheimer said before Wednesday’s practice that the surgery went well and that Overshown would begin working with the training staff.
“Hook had surgery, went well, doing good. He’ll get into the rehab part of it and then D-Mo will start working with Britt,” Schottenheimer said. “But overall, those were the two main things.”
Overshown strained his hamstring with 12:04 left in the fourth quarter. Schottenheimer said Monday that the injury could cost him one to two weeks and is nothing long-term. Overshown wore the green dot in the opener and played 51 defensive snaps with 7 tackles. Rookie Jaishawn Barham played 34 defensive snaps, and Dee Winters played 40.
Jalen Thompson played all 69 defensive snaps at safety against New York. P.J. Locke played 28.
Houston played 10 defensive snaps and 10 on special teams in the opener and made 1 tackle. Cornelius was inactive against the Giants.
Dallas placed running back Malik Davis on injured reserve Saturday with a hip injury and signed Tyler Goodson off the Atlanta Falcons practice squad on Tuesday. Guard Tyler Smith is on injured reserve after thumb surgery.
Thursday’s report is the next update. Dallas hosts Washington at AT&T Stadium on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.
