Mark Schlereth makes bold 2025 prediction for 49ers' Brock Purdy

Former NFL offensive lineman turned FOX Sports analyst Mark Schlereth is high on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy as he enters his fourth NFL season. While Purdy is in line for a massive contract extension, debate continues among fans and media about his true value.

Purdy delivered a standout performance in 2023, throwing for a single-season franchise record 4,280 yards. That success raised expectations for 2024, and the quarterback ultimately fell short. He finished with 3,864 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions—declines in all major categories compared to the previous year.

Injuries plagued the 49ers throughout the 2024 season, stripping Purdy of key offensive weapons. San Francisco ended the year with just six wins and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020, fueling criticism that Purdy can't carry a team on his own.

Still, Schlereth remains confident that Purdy will silence his doubters in 2025.

"Brock Purdy proves he's a top-five quarterback. Mark it down," Schlereth said during a segment on Breakfast Ball. "Brock Purdy, when you look at Brock Purdy, one, from the neck up, decision-making. He gets through progressions like none other."

Schlereth pointed out that since Purdy's first NFL start, he ranks first in yards per pass attempt, second in passer rating, third in passing yards, and fifth in completion percentage.

"I mean, he is unbelievable," Schlereth continued. "And everybody just wants to point to the fact that, oh, they have so many weapons, they're so good. He proves that it's a lot about Brock Purdy and not as much about all the weapons around him, because they got rid of guys, they got rid of [WR] Deebo [Samuel], they've got guys that are coming off of injury. Brock Purdy proves that he's a top quarterback."
