The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs once again had an instant classic, with Buffalo proving victorious, 28-21. Buffalo had a little over a 40 percent chance to win the game, according to ESPN.
Nevertheless, the Bills found a way to win and silenced some critics along the way.
After the game, rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston called out the Bills Mafia in the best way possible. Not just the interception, but getting to play his first game in front of the beloved fan base was one he won't soon forget. He even got a little personal and is quickly turning into a fan-favorite.
"Yeah, first time playing here, man," Hairston said. "I won't lie, beginning of the game I was a little nervous. But I'm like, I'm here for a reason, Bills Mafia is the best, and I was happy to be able to play in front of them."

One of the reasons the Bills drafted him was due to his speed. Perhaps the biggest play outside of the interception was one that won't show up on the stat sheet. He followed receiver Xavier Worthy stride for stride down the sideline, an impressive feat for the speedster.

It was always going to be a big challenge to face off against the Chiefs' offense, something Hairston acknowledged with his postgame comments.
"I knew coming into this game that they got about four or five receivers that can just go, and then having Worthy just set the record last year or whatever," Hairston said. "Just knowing what to expect and just being confident because I ran a fast 40 too, so I know I feel confident with running with anybody, and a game like tonight really proved that."
One of the bright spots was the young guns stepping up in big moments. Safety Cole Bishop had four pass breakups and was all over the field, wreaking havoc in the defensive backfield. Bills Mafia wasn't the only one getting a shoutout, as Hairston had plenty to say about Bishop.
"Man, Cole was flying around. Cole had about 10 PBU's tonight," Hairston said. "But it was cool seeing Cole fly around, man. And even all week in practice, he was flying around, so I knew he was poised to have a good game. Man, it's just so fun out there playing with those guys like Cole and everybody else on defense, it's just fun."

Hairston had an interception of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, one that he had envisioned days before in practice. It was an incredible moment for the rookie's first game inside Highmark Stadium. He provided an incredible quote after being asked if it lived up to the hype in his head.

"Yeah, honestly, just you know earlier in that week when we talked," Hairston said. "Me just manifesting it, just putting it in the air, and then just trusting God the rest of the way. You know, I go out there and pray before every drive, and I just play with confidence and play free knowing that I'm protected by God. And He came through, man, got my first interception on Patrick Mahomes."
It hasn't been an easy road for Hairston; he suffered a non-contact injury and was sidelined for the first chunk of the season. Head coach Sean McDermott talked about the mental and physical aspects of being held out that long, especially for a rookie. Hairston put everything into perspective when asked about how gratifying the interception was, especially considering his injury.
"Honestly, games like this is the games I prayed for growing up," Hairston added. "There's game as a little kid you want to be a part of and the fact that I was part of this game tonight was truly like a dream come true. And then, speaking of camp and getting injured, missing the first couple games of the season.
"Really just relying on the guys on the team, man," Hairston said. "They kept me going, they kept me up, and just being back out here they keep me confident. I love being a part of this team; it's really a brotherhood."
For Hairston, it wasn't just about the interception or the win. It was about proving he belonged, and doing it alongside teammates who believed in him through every setback. If this was just a glimpse of what's to come, Bills fans have every reason to be excited about his future with the organization.
