There is no love lost when it comes to the Las Vegas Raiders and former wide receiver Davante Adams.
Since being traded to the New York Jets midseason, Adams has taken every opportunity to throw shade at his former team. That has not changed since signing with the Los Angeles Rams, as his comments during minicamp indicated that the bad blood still remains. With Adams’s latest jab, the issue has made its way back into the news cycle.
The news reached Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, who set the record straight on what he believes caused Adams’ s disapproval of the team.
On former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel’s “Glory Daze” YouTube show, Crosby believes that the Raiders releasing Adams’s former Fresno State teammate and quarterback Derek Carr triggered the former’s sudden discontent.
“That’s when it started with the Davante situation,” Crosby said. “Him and Derek were together at Fresno. It just seemed like it was almost too good to be true. Then the Derek situation didn’t work out. He gets benched at the end of the year. He didn’t even finish the season with Davante, and then he’s out of there. So it’s like… now what the f— is the plan? That’s his guy.”
From there, the situation quickly snowballed out of control, and it was put on camera for all the world to see.
During the 2024 Netflix documentary “Receivers,” Adams was one of five players highlighted during the 2023 season. The Raiders had signed Jimmy Garoppolo to replace Carr, and the former All-Pro receiver was quickly growing more agitated as he struggled to develop chemistry with his new quarterback. It reached a fever pitch in a Week Six matchup against the New England Patriots, when Adams threatened to leave the Raiders in a short, expletive-filled rant.

After starting that season 3-5, the Raiders benched Garoppolo in favor of fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell and fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. On the topic of the former, Adams played a role in that decision, tying the move to his own future with the team.
“I signed off on that,” Adams admitted. “Jimmy is a great guy, but something had to happen in order for us to have a chance down the stretch and for me to remain a Raider, in all honesty.”
Ultimately, the relationship never got better, and the Raiders have decided to move on despite Adams not backing down.
