Las Vegas Raiders defensive star Maxx Crosby is hurting after a former teammate passed away at just 35. Crosby, who was involved in one of the biggest controversies of the 2026 NFL offseason, sent a lengthy message to his former teammate’s family.
Former defensive end Josh Mauro passed away this month. Mauro had stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants during his eight-year NFL career.
He played 80 games, recording 130 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five passes defended. Even though he only played 13 games in Oakland, Mauro made a strong impression on Crosby.
After the family announced the tragic news, Crosby joined those who lamented it. He was heartbroken over the situation.
“I can’t believe I have to do this right now,” Crosby began. “I’m sick to my stomach to be honest. But my guy Josh Mauro just passed away recently. Damn bro, I really don’t have words. I love you, bro, and I wish I could’ve done more for you. I wish I could’ve been there for you. It’s just tough man.”
“Sometimes you don’t talk as much and everybody’s got their own (expletive) going on and you could lose contact at times — but I’ll say this man, Josh I love you bro and I know you had my back since day one,” Crosby said. “You were the first and probably only vet to text me when I got drafted [in 2019].
Crosby noted that they came from the same area, and he always looked up to Mauro, who always had his back.
“… We all have our battles man and you never know what people are going through. I wish I could just talk to you one more time. It (expletive) breaks my heart. I love you though, bro. You were hilarious and a great human being. I just wish I could’ve been there for you. I love you bro. Rest in peace.”
