The Miami Dolphins need to address the safety position in the 2026 NFL Draft after parting ways with multiple players. The Dolphins traded Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets, while Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis remain unsigned. The team brought in Lonnie Johnson Jr., who has started just three games over the past two seasons, as the projected starter alongside fifth-round steal Dante Trader Jr.

The three current backups include Zayne Anderson, Jordan Colbert, and Omar Brown. The three have combined for fewer than 200 defensive snaps with only two starts, which is far from ideal. Expect the front office to address the position by adding multiple players in the upcoming draft.

According to Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins have hosted Toledo Rockets safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren for a 30-visit. Following the conclusion of his senior season, he has risen on draft boards, with many projecting him as a first-round pick, and he could be in play if he is available at pick number 30. McNeil-Warren is a ball hawk with good ball skills and a strong run defender, making him a suitable strong safety operating in the box.

Here’s a quick review of his 2025 campaign

Emmanuel McNeil-Warren put together a breakout senior year, setting career highs in tackles and tackles for loss and earning First-Team All-MAC and Third-Team All-American honors. McNeil-Warren recorded 77 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 0.5 sacks, two interceptions, one pick-six, five pass breakups, and three forced fumbles across 13 games. He also posted 11 run stops, a 33.3% forced incompletion rate, a 15.5% missed tackle rate, and allowed 116 passing yards, one touchdown, and a whopping 50.3 passer rating.

McNeil-Warren wrapped up his four-year tenure at Toledo, totaling 214 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions, one pick-six, 13 pass deflections, and nine forced fumbles in 48 games.

Here’s Lance Zierlein’s scouting report

“Long, downhill safety capable of bolstering a team’s run defense and playing enforcer over the middle. McNeil-Warren is most valuable when playing near the line of scrimmage or in robber positioning. He anticipates well in coverage and is quick to close on receivers but will need to be protected by scheme to prevent speed mismatches.

“He’s urgent in run support and has a feel for slipping blocks/meeting runners early in the carry. He’s a rangy tackler, but needs to quiet his feet when diagnosing and flowing downhill to tackle. McNeil-Warren might be pigeon-holed schematically but he’s good at his job.”

He projects as a plus starter.
