The depth of the Miami Dolphins backfield suffered a considerable blow this week when second-year running back Jaylen Wright had surgery on his leg, an injury that will keep him out until at least Septemberish, according to head coach Mike McDaniel. Wright sustained the injury in the preseason, which he had to have a minor procedure that is not regarded as a season-ending injury, but will keep him out of commission for several weeks, including the regular season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
According to coach McDaniel, the procedure involving Jaylen Wright was minor, and the club is optimistic that he will be back late in September. The Dolphins did not put him on injured reserve, implying that there is hope that he will be active long before the middle of the season. Meanwhile, sixth-round rookie Ollie Gordon is rising up the depth chart and can perhaps open the season as the first-line backup to De’Von Achane, who has a calf injury but is projected to be ready by Week 1.
In a bid to combat the problem of depth, Miami also added veteran running backs JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson Jr. to the practice squad, adding strength to a position group that had suddenly been struck by losses.

Jaylen Wright was drafted in the fourth round in 2024 and demonstrated the potential of big plays as a rookie, and was set to play a rotational part in a high-octane Miami offense. His absence comes at a crucial point of preparation, yet the Dolphins are hopeful that he will return in the first few weeks of the regular season.
In the meantime, fantasy managers and Dolphins fans alike are going to be closely monitoring the Miami backfield rotation as it develops in hopes that Wright can be reintroduced into the rotation as soon as possible.
