The Miami Dolphins have signed offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste. Within weeks of the 2025 NFL regular season beginning, the Miami Dolphins have made a significant offensive line change. Miami has placed veteran offensive lineman Germain Ifedi on injured reserve due to a season-ending injury. The team signed Miami native Yodny Cajuste, a former New England Patriots tackle, on August 14. This deal comes as the Dolphins are struggling for depth and stability up front due to a rash of injuries. The addition of Cajuste is more than just a roster addition; it’s a chance for redemption and a homecoming.

Who Is Yodny Cajuste?

Yodny Cajuste was born on February 21, 1996, in Miami, Florida, and was surrounded by football culture growing up. He played collegiate football at West Virginia University after showcasing his abilities during his high school career. Cajuste became a dominant offensive tackle at WVU. His 2018 Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year award solidified his place on NFL scouts’ radars.

In the third round (101st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Cajuste was chosen by the New England Patriots. He was viewed at the time by the Patriots as a long-term player who could help shield their quarterbacks for many years to come. Regretfully, his New England career would be characterized more by his time spent off the field than on it.

NFL Journey

In his first two NFL seasons, Yodny Cajuste struggled with injuries. Although he hasn’t played in the regular season in the past two years, he played in 17 games and made five starts throughout the next two seasons. Before getting released, Cajuste was placed on injured reserve after spending time with the Jets and Giants.

Yodny Cajuste’s NFL career was postponed after undergoing quad surgery for a non-football injury; he missed his whole rookie season. That setback was a precursor to what would turn out to be a dominant theme. Due to a knee injury, he was placed on injured reserve once more in 2020. He was put back in IR in 2022 due to a thumb injury. His biggest struggle was staying on the field, even though he displayed bursts of strong play when healthy.

Dolphins Offensive Line Woes

A slew of offensive line injuries plagued the Dolphins as August got underway. All three players missed camp: depth player Bayron Matos, versatile lineman Liam Eichenberg, and starting right tackle Austin Jackson. Miami tried out five offensive linemen to fill the void. Cajuste was a standout player with potential, if he remained healthy, and a system fit.

Conclusion

The Miami Dolphins signed Yodny Cajuste due to a combination of opportunity and necessity. The Dolphins are trying to strengthen their injured offensive line. For Cajuste, it’s the opportunity to fully realize the potential that led to his selection in the third round and to do it in front of his home audience.
