Miami’s Youth Movement

The Miami Dolphins are still weeks away from training camp, but their offseason program has already provided an early look at what the team’s 2026 rookie class could bring to the table. While it’s important not to overreact to practices without pads, several rookies have stood out during rookie minicamp, OTAs, and mandatory minicamp. More importantly, Miami’s draft class appears to have several players capable of contributing sooner rather than later.

The most notable name has been first-round cornerback Chris Johnson. The rookie has drawn praise for both his confidence and professionalism since arriving in Miami. Johnson has looked comfortable throughout offseason work and carries himself like a player expecting to earn significant snaps early in his career. For a Dolphins defense looking for young building blocks, that’s an encouraging sign.

Fellow first-round pick Kadyn Proctor has also made a strong impression. The offensive tackle’s size immediately jumps out, but coaches and observers have also noted how quickly he has adapted to the professional level. Miami invested heavily in improving its offensive line this offseason, and Proctor appears positioned to become an important piece of that effort.

Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez may be generating the most excitement relative to expectations. The second-round pick has consistently been mentioned among the team’s standout rookies, showing strong instincts and a solid grasp of the defensive scheme. It’s still early, but Rodriguez already looks like a player who could outperform his draft position.

One of the clearest conclusions from Miami’s offseason program is that this rookie class appears further along than many expected. While no player has officially earned a starting role yet, several newcomers have already put themselves in position to compete for meaningful snaps once training camp begins. For a team looking to inject more youth and athleticism into key areas of the roster, that’s an encouraging development. The early returns suggest Miami may have landed a draft class capable of contributing immediately while also serving as a foundation for the future.

When training camp begins, Johnson, Proctor, and Rodriguez will be among the most closely watched players on the roster. How they perform once the pads come on and competition intensifies will ultimately determine their roles, but each player has made a strong first impression. If their development continues on its current trajectory, Miami could find itself relying on this rookie class much sooner than anticipated.
