The contract negotiations between star pass rusher Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys continue to drag on. Now, Cowboys owner and president Jerry Jones has shared where the latest holdup is in these contract negotiations.

Jones went on Fox News on Thursday morning. There, he explained that in the contract dispute, there is a puzzle to fit together on the roster and that he needs to put a roster around Parsons too.

“Micah’s a great player,” Jones said. “Not a good player, but a great player. He knows more than anyone that it’s a team thing. So, I know everybody’s tired of hearing this, but you’ve got to put this puzzle together so that you can have some other people out there playing with Micah. That’s the art of the deal and that’s what we’re trying to get done.”

Micah Parsons was a first round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. He’d quickly make a name for himself, being named Defensive Rookie of the Year. He’s also a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection. He’s also a four-time Pro Bowl selection. Last season, in 13 games, he’d have 12 sacks to go along with 43 total tackles. Injuries stunted some of his productivity, but it was still an excellent season.

Now, the expectation seems to be that Parsons becomes the highest-paid pass rusher ever. That, when the Cowboys and Jones have already given out massive deals to players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in recent seasons, makes for a difficult salary cap situation to navigate.

“We’re trying to make this thing work, ” Jones said. “We have all the appreciation in the world for what he can mean to the years ahead. We’re proud to have him.”

Amid the contract dispute, Parsons hasn’t been practicing. Now, with the season just two weeks away, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is confident that he’ll be on the field for the opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s despite seemingly very little progress amid the contract dispute.

NFL insider says pressure is on Jerry Jones to ‘pick up the phone’

The contract negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons have seemingly stalled out. Now, according to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the pressure is growing on Jerry Jones.

“We say it’s status quo, but I think it’s important to just highlight what’s happening here. Even if Micah wanted to open up this negotiation to remain a Dallas Cowboy, the Cowboys are not allowing that because they won’t talk to his agents,” Russini said.

“But you can’t negotiate a deal if you don’t talk. What’s next, right? Like, what happens here? Somebody’s gonna have to give. The agent can’t do anything because the owner doesn’t want to talk to him. So it’s gonna be on Jerry if he wants to do the deal, to pick up the phone and say, ‘Alright, put that to bed. Let’s renegotiate.’ But I don’t know if that is gonna happen. I feel like in the past, with other deals, I always had belief that Jerry would just put aside the ego and open up the wallet and get the player that he needs on the field. This is gonna be a lot of backtracking by him. I don’t know if he’s gonna be willing to do that.”
