Micah Parsons' Cowboys Minicamp Attendance Validates Brian Schottenheimer

Dallas Cowboys' pass-rushing linebacker Micah Parsons, as he told us last week, would be at minicamp at The Star, and true to his word, he was.

Granted, Micah didn't participate in any on-field drills, instead engaging with owner Jerry Jones in a conversation that reportedly lasted roughly 25 minutes, but the fact he was here is a big tick in his leadership column.

Given that there is still no movement on Parsons' contract extension, he appears to be fully committed to Brian Schottenheimer's approach, and for the first-time head coach, it is telling that Micah was at The Star for Day 1.

“To have everybody here, perfect attendance is a good thing,” Schottenheimer said. “It just shows you that he's serious about what we've talked about, which is developing that leadership mentality, the mindset to be a guy that we can count on. Not just the fourth quarter when he's got to make a big sack or get pressure, but just in general throughout the course of a week."

Micah has been around the building all offseason, even at OTAs last week, with the All-Pro doing his best to stay engaged with his teammates and new coaches.

However, for those who question how Micah is progressing in understanding the defensive scheme under Matt Eberflus and how he is learning what he needs to learn without being a constant presence inside the building, Schotty has provided an answer.

"My conversations with Micah have been great," he added. "Really all the guys, but he's doing the things he's supposed to do in terms of he's training, prepping, he's been in, been out and nobody's more excited than Micah about what we're building here and he's excited to be back in the building doing it.”

Yes, it is early, and minicamp wasn't the big deadline in his contract talks; that is training camp. However, Micah being at The Star and still doing all the things he can without actually being on the field, we call that a "hold in," my friends.

But Schottenheimer is content with what his All-Pro pass rusher has been doing as he awaits what should be a market-setting contract.
