The Green Bay Packers launched their 2025 campaign in style, delivering a 27-13 victory over the two-time defending NFC North champion Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. The win snapped Detroit’s three-game streak in Green Bay and highlighted the long-awaited debut of linebacker Micah Parsons, the Packers’ marquee trade pickup from Dallas.

Parsons came into Week 1 still dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back, so the Packers kept him on a snap count, playing 29 of 65 snaps (45%). Even with the restriction, he made an immediate impact.

On his opening defensive series against All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell, Parsons pressured Jared Goff into a quick checkdown, setting the tone for the unit. His relentless rushes in the first half kept Detroit off balance, and in the second quarter he burned past Sewell on third down, forcing Goff into a pass that rookie safety Evan Williams picked off.

Parsons capped his Packers debut with three quarterback pressures, second only to Lucas Van Ness’s four. In the fourth quarter, he finally broke through for his first sack in green and gold, chasing down Jared Goff at 18.47 miles per hour before slamming him behind the line.

His pressure consistently swung momentum, producing a 2-yard loss on a completion, setting up an interception, and sealing the night with that sack, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

The newest member of the Packers may have logged just one tackle and a sack in the box score, but his influence stretched well beyond the numbers. His relentless pressure opened lanes for teammates, allowing Lukas Van Ness to secure a third-quarter sack and Rashan Gary to collect 1.5 of Green Bay’s four total sacks.

Rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper anchored the defense with 12 tackles, while the Packers kept Detroit under 200 yards of offense until the closing minutes.

Jordan Love delivered an efficient performance, completing 16 of 22 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns with a 128.6 rating, while Parsons’ defensive presence helped power Green Bay to its 13th consecutive home-opening victory under Matt LaFleur.

Dallas traded Parsons to Green Bay for Kenny Clark and draft picks, hoping to strengthen its run defense. That gamble backfired in Week 1. The Cowboys gave up three rushing touchdowns in a 24-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, while Parsons immediately lifted the Packers against last year’s NFC top seed.

Green Bay now shifts focus to Thursday Night Football against the Washington Commanders, where Parsons is expected to play a larger role as his back improves.
