Micah Parsons was not present on the practice field Thursday for the first time during training camp. While many thought it may be due to his contract negotiation, turns out, an injury is what kept Parsons away.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Parsons missed practice due to back tightness. Something Parsons has been dealing with since arriving in Oxnard, treatment was needed while the Dallas Cowboys were out there getting work.
“For the first time in training camp, Micah Parsons was not on the practice field Thursday with multiple sources indicating the Pro Bowl pass rusher was dealing with back tightness,” Archer said via X. “He received treatment during practice.”
Right as practice began, Parsons was nowhere to be found. Neither was Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones. Speculation began to run wild, wondering if the two were somewhere else, working on a new contract.
Reports quickly shot down the idea, including one from WFAA’s Mike Leslie. He spoke with somebody inside the front office, getting confirmation.
“From a Cowboys front office source, regarding the apparently coincidental absence of Micah Parsons and Jerry Jones at today’s practice: ‘Nothing going on,’” Leslie said via X.
Now, we know the reason behind Parsons’ absence. Something to monitor moving forward, not just due to the negotiations, but as we are now less than a month away from the Cowboys’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Cowboys LB Micah Parsons is still unsigned by Dallas and, with that, his trade request still stands. Now, with his potential availability at least in question, other teams could consider making a real move for him across the NFL.
‘Get Up’ discussed the latest regarding Parsons’ ongoing situation in Dallas on Thursday. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler began that by reporting on the trade request, noting a handful of teams, including possibly ones within the division, would be in on making a deal for one of the best defensive players in the league while adding that the Cowboys are still unlikely to even do it.
“I checked with a source. I was told, as far as potentially missing games if a trade doesn’t happen? He’s more focused on getting traded. That is his objective right now,” Fowler said. “I’m told there are at least five or six teams that would be interested, if Dallas is even willing to do it – including, possibly, in his own division, by the way “But Dallas has shown no willingness to move him,” mentioned Fowler. “I haven’t talked to anybody in Dallas who expects him to be outside of the team this year. That’s some perspective.”
