Micah Parsons' blockbuster trade to the Green Bay Packers sent shockwaves through the league. The Washington Commanders were thrilled to see the All-Pro edge rusher leave the NFC East, but the move placed him in their immediate crosshairs on Thursday Night Football in Week 2.
This pits Parsons against his mentor and close confidant, Dan Quinn, once again. And the former Penn State standout just won't stop hinting about a future reunion with the Commanders head coach, even after his bombshell switch from the Dallas Cowboys.
Parsons and Quinn formed a close bond. The coach nurtured the first-round pick to immediate superstardom. Although they are now on different paths, that hasn't stopped this relationship from flourishing further.
This was a sentiment echoed by Parsons during his media availability before resuming his rivalry with the Commanders, albeit in a new jersey. The player has a clear love for Quinn. This is long-standing, and the All-Pro thought their paths would reunite again one day.
Dan's my guy. Even going through the process over the years, he's always reached out, just checking on me as a person. Never really cared about football, always telling me how much his wife miss me and how he wants to see me in Hawaii one day. That's just my guy. He know it's just like a father figure, uncle, however you wanna put it. That's my guy and we're gonna go forever. We're in this for the long run and maybe our journeys might cross again one day.Micah Parsons
That won't be anytime soon. Parsons signed a bumper new contract with the Packers, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. There is no guaranteed money after 2027, and the deal officially expires in 2030. For context, this is when the Commanders' new proposed venue at the RFK Stadium site is expected to be completed.
Parsons will be 31 years old by that point, and who knows if Quinn will still be coaching the Commanders? That would be the desired outlook from a stability standpoint, but there is just no telling for sure.
The only thing guaranteed is that Quinn and Parsons' connection will only grow in the coming years. They might not be working together day-to-day anymore, but it's a testament to the coach's caring outlook that relationships like this with his players often transcend beyond the gridiron.
Maybe Parsons will join the Commanders one day. Maybe he won't, but there could come a time when the player makes a concerted effort to link up with Quinn once again.
Time will tell. And there is a lot of that ahead before this scenario becomes possible.
