Michael Vick's Coaching Debut Will Be During Primetime On National Television
USA TODAY Sports

The much-anticipated former Atlanta Falcons great Michael Vick's coaching debut will be in front of a national audience in primetime.

For the first time since 2021, the Norfolk State Spartans will open their season at home. This time with a big-name coaching staff that includes former NFL great Michael Vick at the helm. A fitting start for the Spartans to open a new era in the state of Virginia.

Norfolk State is scheduled to take on Townson, with the specific ESPN channel to be announced at a later date. During last year's matchup, Townson would get the win over Norfolk State, but Vick looks to earn his first win as a head coach against them in 2025.

After opening the season against Townson, Vick will have his first shot at a rivalry game when Norfolk State takes on Virginia State University. After that, Vick will have his first opportunity to coach against an FBS school when the Spartans play the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Another notable game for Vick will be the "Battle of the Bay." The stakes will be a little higher this year due to the fact that Vick's wife is a Hampton alumna. Vick has also assembled a coaching staff with plenty of NFL experience as well.

Regarding Vick's coaching staff, he would state, “They are going to put these guys in a position to win,” Vick said. “We all have the same mindset, and I felt it was only right to hire guys who thought like me and want to lead like me.”

With a mix of professional experience and proven leadership, Norfolk State’s coaching staff is set to help the program take strides forward in the seasons ahead—the new era begins on August 28th at 7 pm.
