The Green Bay Packers pulled out all the stops in acquiring superstar linebacker Micah Parsons. Not a few believe that Parsons’ addition to Green Bay is what’s going to take the team get over the hump and win a Super Bowl again.
That is still going to be easier said than done, but Parsons is clearly a huge asset now for Green Bay, which already had one of the best defenses in the league back in the 2024 NFL campaign.
Last season, the Packers ranked fifth in the league with just 20.0 points allowed per game and fourth with only 313.2 total yards surrendered per contest. Any team would love to have someone like Parons on their defense, which makes the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to send him away rather than give in to his contract desires sound confusing to many.
Parsons is a proven devastating force on defense, and the Packers now stand to benefit from all the great things he can bring to the field.
However, some still doubt the legitimacy of his defensive impact.
Mina Kimes of ESPN recently entertained the topic, when a social media user on X asked if there’s evidence that supports the notion that Parsons makes his teammates better.
“He was the second most double teamed edge in football (a hair behind Garrett),” said Kimes.
Another X user didn’t seem convinced by it, saying “Yes but did he defeat those double teams? Did his teammates get pressure wins because of it? He’s a good stats against bad teams guy. Gets blocked up when rushing inside and can be run at outside because he’s light-very good player but not complete and not a top 5 edge guy.”
Kimes, however, easily shut that idea down by simply flexing her football knowledge.
“Over the last 3 years Parsons ranks first league-wide in pressure rate vs double teams,” Kimes shared.
