Mock trade proposal has Jalen Ramsey reuniting with a familiar face while helping round out a young secondary in need of a veteran presence

With organized team activities rolling on and mandatory minicamp creeping up for teams around the NFL, teams are getting a good idea of what they have on the roster and what additions still need to be made before the 2025 season.

Right now, it's all about the development stage for young players and getting the veterans caught back up to speed.

At the same time, teams are beginning to explore trade possibilities before the start of training camp later this summer, and no team has had more trade buzz than the Miami Dolphins.

Between Jalen Ramsey, Tyreek Hill, and Jonnu Smith, the Dolphins have had an offseason full of trade drama despite all three players still being on the roster at this moment in time. Each player has his own reason for potentially wanting out with Ramsey seeming like the most likely option to get shipped elsewhere.

With June 1st now behind us, the Dolphins have more cap flexibility to move Ramsey if another team was willing to send in the right offer for the 7-time Pro Bowler.

On Wednesday, ESPN mentioned the Carolina Panthers as the team that could give the best offer to Miami while adding some veteran help to the secondary.

Does a Panthers-Ramsey trade make sense?

From a cap space standpoint, the Panthers currently have $18 million in available space and it's possible Miami can help eat some more of the $20.2 guaranteed salary in 2025 to make this possible as long as they come out even in the trade.

ESPN's Ben Solak's trade proposal had the Panthers sending a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Dolphins, an offer that Dolphins' reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques chose to accept out of the three proposals.

"Considering the Dolphins gave up only a backup tight end (Long) and a third-round pick to acquire Ramsey in the first place, Solak's offer is the closest thing to breaking even in terms of draft capital. An additional fourth-round pick from Carolina gives Miami a whopping seven selections in the first four rounds of the 2026 draft, not including any compensatory picks." - ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques

How would Ramsey fit in Carolina?

With the potential there, let's explore how this fit would work out. Because with a disgruntled player like Ramsey, the player-team fit is clearly a required box to check.

By coming to Carolina, Ramsey would reunite with Ejiro Evero, the Panthers' defensive coordinator. The two spent three seasons together with the Los Angeles Rams from 2019-2021 with Evero serving as the Rams' defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach in 2021. That season, Ramsey was named as a first-team All-Pro selection with the Rams going on to win Super Bowl LVI.

Knowing those two have a close connection already going into it, Ramsey's fit on the roster itself would be something to look at. Carolina already has an established CB1 in recently-paid Jaycee Horn with Mike Jackson slated to start on the outside as well.

Having Horn as the top cornerback will take some pressure of the 30-year-old veteran. Solak also floated the idea of moving Ramsey to safety or in the slot.

As a versatile play-maker, Ramsey could easily play at any of the three spots, even at his age, and his presence would give the secondary a veteran voice after overhauling the defensive front.

It's not a bad move to consider for a Panthers team looking to jump on the scene and surprise some people as soon as 2025.
