ESPN sideline reporter Molly McGrath is regarded as one of the best in the business, but she made a brutal mistake during the first round of the NFL Draft.
McGrath, a Boston College graduate, joined ESPN in July 2016. She has become one of their top reporters for college football. Prior to signing a deal with the Worldwide Leader In Sports, she worked for a plethora of networks, including Fox Sports, Comcast SportsNet New England and WHDH-TV.
It wasn't a surprise to see ESPN send McGrath to Green Bay for the draft. That being said, she had a moment this Thursday night that she'd love to erase.
After the Cincinnati Bengals selected Texas A&M star Shemar Stewart with the 17th overall pick, McGrath said, "Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow’s jobs just got a little harder."
There's one problem with McGrath's comment: Burrow and Stewart are about to be teammates.
Immediately after McGrath made this mistake on national TV, fans rushed over to social media to share their thoughts. They weren't too kind with their remarks.
"How did Joe Burrow's job get harder," one fan said.
"Molly, he’s Joe Burrow’s teammate," a second fan tweeted. "The goal Is not to make his job harder."
"I can’t stop thinking about the reporter interviewing Shemar Stewart (wearing his Bengals hat, freshly drafted by the Bengals) looking at him and saying he’s going to make Joe Burrow & Lamar Jackson’s jobs harder …. brutal lack of preparedness," another person wrote on X.
"Unreal effort from the interviewer on the NFL Draft to tell the new Bengals DT that Joe Burrow will have a harder time up front. It’s a long night," a fourth person added.
McGrath is a total pro, so she'll have no trouble bouncing back from this incident.
ESPN will continue to lean on McGrath for its coverage of the NFL Draft on Friday and Saturday.
