Moments that defined the 2024 New York Giants

Giants fans didn’t have much to cheer for as their team finished the 2024 regular season with a 3-14 record. Here are the most memorable moments from an otherwise forgettable year.

Sept. 15 | Malik Nabers’ first touchdown

New York’s No. 1 receiver had five catches for 66 yards in his first regular-season game but the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft couldn’t find the end zone in a 28-6 loss to the Vikings in Week 1. Week 2 was another story as Nabers caught 10 of 18 targets for 127 yards and a touchdown against Washington.

He put up two more scores against the Browns in Week 3 but then went eight games without a touchdown, finally scoring against the Ravens in Week 15.

Still, Nabers broke the Giants' single-season reception record with 109 catches this year and became the first Giants receiver to have a 1,000-yard season since Odell Beckham Jr. in 2018.

Oct. 6 | Tyrone Tracy Jr. takes over

After losing Saquon Barkley to the Eagles in free agency, the Giants signed Devin Singletary to a three-year, $16.5M contract to take over as the team’s lead running back.

Singletary averaged 65.6 yards per game with two scores in his first three games but watched from the sidelines with a groin injury as Tracy ran for 129 yards against the Seahawks in Week 5.

The former Texan failed to see more than eight carries in a game after that while Tracy averaged 12 carries per game for the rest of the year, finishing with a team-high 839 yards with another 284 yards through the air. Not bad for a fifth-round rookie who spent most of his time playing wide receiver in college.

Nov. 22 | Daniel Jones released

Jones threw for 2,070 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while leading the team to two wins in the Giants’ first 10 games. When told he’d be benched for the rest of the season, Jones asked for and was granted an outright release.

As a first-round pick in 2019, New York had high hopes for Jones. It signed him to a four-year, $160M contract extension in 2023 but the deal contained no guaranteed money beyond 2024. The Giants have no quarterbacks signed for 2025, which leaves general manager Joe Schoen with plenty of work to do this offseason.

Dec. 2 | Dexter Lawrence II takes a seat

New York’s Pro Bowl defensive tackle was off to a hot start with nine sacks and 44 tackles (eight for a loss) in his first 12 games but dislocated his left elbow in the team’s Thanksgiving Day loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

He was officially placed on IR four days later, but unlike Jones, he’ll be back to finish the four-year, $87.5M contract extension he signed last offseason.

Dec. 29 | A costly win against the Colts

With a 2-13 record heading into their Week 17 matchup with the Colts, the Giants held a 57 percent chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. A loss would have given them an 86 percent chance of earning the top spot, per ESPN Analytics.

But thanks to 309 yards and four touchdowns from quarterback Drew Lock, the Giants beat the Colts 45-33 in the team’s home finale. Now, they can only hope quarterbacks like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward fall to them with the No. 3 pick.
