A new Netflix documentary titled Untold: The Fall of Favre will take a hard look at the controversial legacy of Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre when it premieres May 20, 2025. The series installment promises to shine a spotlight on both his alleged sexual misconduct and his involvement in one of the largest public embezzlement cases in Mississippi’s history.

The trailer, released Tuesday, features former New York Jets “Gameday” host Jenn Sterger recounting her long-standing claims that Favre sent her unwanted lewd messages and photos during the 2008 NFL season. “Brett Favre ultimately destroyed my life,” Sterger says in the preview, explaining how he allegedly obtained her contact information and began sending explicit messages after she refused to give him her number.

The documentary also confronts Favre’s central role in the Mississippi welfare fraud scandal, which saw tens of millions in federal funds misappropriated. Favre reportedly received $1.1 million in welfare money for speeches he never gave and advocated for $5 million more to build a volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter played. That money came from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds, which are meant to support the state's poorest residents.

In a major twist, Favre disclosed during a September 2024 congressional hearing that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The announcement came while he was testifying about the Mississippi welfare investigation and discussing investments he made in a company working on concussion treatments. “I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s,” Favre stated under oath.

Directed by Rebecca Gitlitz, the documentary aims to hold sports figures accountable in a culture often willing to overlook off-field behavior in favor of on-field heroics. “This story about one of the greatest quarterbacks in history goes beyond touchdowns and epic wins and lifts the lid on how when fame rises, sometimes accountability falls,” Gitlitz said in a statement. She added that the film was "made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told from the people who lived with the consequences of Favre’s actions."

Produced by EverWonder Studio, Front Office Sports, and Time Studios, the film features a team of executive producers including Ian Orefice, Rebecca Gitlitz, Jonna McLaughlin, Amanda Spain, Dave O’Connor, Loren Hammonds, Jon Wertheim, A.J. Perez, Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Chapman Way, and Maclain Way.

Untold: The Fall of Favre will premiere globally on Netflix on May 20 as part of the streaming platform’s acclaimed Untold series, known for chronicling complex and often controversial sports stories.
