Netflix reportedly lands Super Bowl champion for Season 2 of 'Quarterback'

It's taken some time, but it appears NFL Films and Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions company found at least one individual willing to participate in filming for the second season of Netflix's "Quarterback" docuseries.

Jake Ellenbogen of SB Nation's Turf Show Times reported Wednesday that Los Angeles Rams starter Matthew Stafford will be featured in the second season of the "Quarterback" program. Ellenbogen added that Stafford was mic’d up for the project during what became this past Sunday's 30-13 victory at the Seattle Seahawks.

Interestingly, Kenneth Arthur of Turf Show Times shared in July that Stafford rejected a chance to be part of the show's first season for reasons related to privacy. Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings and current Philadelphia Eagles backup Marcus Mariota starred in the program's debut season that was released earlier this year.

Stafford helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI back in February 2022 but was the subject of numerous retirement and trade rumors this past offseason after a spinal cord contusion prematurely ended his campaign last fall. It was reported in July that the 35-year-old "frustrated" the Rams when he declined to restructure the four-year contract extension he signed shortly after the Super Bowl victory, and it was recently learned that the New York Jets inquired with Los Angeles about Stafford's availability this offseason before the Jets landed Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.

Some are again linking Stafford with the Jets this week after Rodgers went down with a season-ending torn Achilles on Monday night, but ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano indicated the Rams won't be interested in such a trade if they keep on winning.

As for "Quarterback," the previously mentioned Manning acknowledged before Week 1 that he was struggling to find willing participants for the program's second season. Andrew Bucholtz of Awful Announcing noted it's unknown who other than Stafford agreed to do the show this time around.
