New 49ers QB shares what makes Brock Purdy special

Veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs joined the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent this offseason and recently explained during an edition of "The Victory Degree" podcast how Brock Purdy playing "consistent football" makes him the perfect QB1 for the club.

"When the defense comes up, or they get an advantageous look to throw a go-ball, to throw an in-cut, they hit them, and they make those plays, but those plays occur because they were doing the boring stuff at a consistent level," Dobbs said about listing Purdy among elite quarterbacks, as shared by David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone. "And I'm not saying Brock Purdy's a boring player when I say this. I'm saying he's a very consistent player, and he's a very accurate, consistent quarterback. And that's what makes guys really good in the NFL."

According to Pro Football Reference, Purdy became a regular-season Most Valuable Player Award finalist by finishing Week 18 of this past campaign ranked first in the league among qualified players with a 72.8 adjusted QBR, a 113.0 passer rating, an average of 9.6 yards gained per pass attempt and a 54.7 percent passing success rate.

Nevertheless, some still view the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft as a "game manager" who has benefited from having multiple star players as offensive weapons.

During the podcast, Dobbs mentioned how Purdy isn't known for making highlight-reel plays and no-look passes as are quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.

The "Passtronaut" also noted that Purdy excels at doing so-called little things needed to guide a team such as the 49ers to Super Bowl appearances.

"The pass rushers get faster every single year," Dobbs added. "So you have to be able to quickly make decisions, get the ball out of your hands, get the ball in the playmakers' hands. And if you're able to do that at a high level, your team is going to play good football. They're going to play really good football."

Critics may not want to acknowledge that Purdy is a big reason DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Niners as the betting favorites at +250 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX as of Friday afternoon.

Even if Purdy doesn't get his hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy this coming February, he likely will sign a massive contract extension with San Francisco at some point next year.
