Mike Vrabel’s wife, Jen Vrabel, has been silent following the scandal that has rocked her marriage. But a new report indicates she’s likely to stay put despite the embarrassment her husband has caused her.
Vrabel’s life has been turned upside down since he took the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl.
The New York Post set things off with photos showing him getting close to Dianna Russini in a very private setting. A photo of them kissing has since leaked.
According to the Daily Mail, Vrabel feels "terrible" for Russini, who has had to quit her job at The Athletic. The publication learned that the New York Times, which owns The Athletic, placed Russini on leave as part of its investigation.
She eventually resigned.
As for Vrabel’s wife, it does not appear that she’s headed toward divorce. She was recently spotted at an airport still wearing her wedding ring, which is telling enough.
A source has since told the Mail that the Vrabels are working on their marriage, with the coach acknowledging he has plenty of work to do.
“There happens to be so many emotions going through him right now that for whatever counseling he is taking part in will be a continued situation for the foreseeable future,” the source noted. “All of this is not going to be fixed overnight. He has to get on the right page with himself, and everyone involved, and that is easier said than done, and we are currently on the bottom of that mountain.
“He has a lot of climbing to do to get to the top of the mountain and on level footing,” they added. “He’s hoping that the saying time heals all wounds is true. He’s resting his beliefs on that right now and drowning himself in work.”
Vrabel has had an easier time with the Patriots, who allowed him to take time off for counseling during the NFL Draft.
The team has publicly supported Vrabel and would like him to continue as their coach.
“The Krafts are extremely loyal and have no intention of firing Mike, nor do they want to see him quit over all this drama,” the Mail relays.
Even so, they have reportedly lined up Mike Tomlin as a potential replacement should things not work out.
“That is a situation that they don’t even want to consider after initial thoughts,” the source said. “The Krafts will ride it out with Mike Vrabel till the wheels fall off. They are very much interested in putting all of this in the rearview.”
Time will tell whether his wife wants to put it in the rearview. But it does appear Vrabel is safe for now.
