The Kansas City Chiefs haven't announced the signing yet,  but free agent LT D.J. Humphries officially signed with the team on Monday, per the NFL's daily personnel notice.

He's already received a copy of the playbook and attended his first team meetings ahead of the team's Week 13 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He's also been assigned a jersey number with his new club.

FOX 4 Kansas City's Harold R. Kuntz shared a photo that Humphries posted to his Instagram page of his new jersey number.

The former 2015 NFL draft pick has known just one jersey number in the NFL. He wore the No. 74 with the Arizona Cardinals. That number, of course, is taken by Chiefs starting RT Jawaan Taylor. For that reason, Humphries decided to return to his roots.  No. 70 was his college jersey number with the Florida Gators from 2012 through 2014. He became a freshman All-American while wearing that number. Humphries has actually worn a number in the 70s throughout his football-playing career, wearing No. 75 as a high schooler at Mallard Creek in North Carolina.

As for the Chiefs' history with this jersey number, the number was most recently worn by OL McKade Mettauer, who is on injured reserve. During the Andy Reid era, the number was worn by Prince Tega Wanogho, Kelechi Osemele, Bryan Witzmann, and Mike DeVito. The most notable player to wear the number is likely former Chiefs RT Jim Nicholson who started over 60 games for Kansas City in the mid-to-late 1970s.
