After a tumultuous 2025 NFL season, Travis Kelce flirted with retirement again. The legendary tight end showed glimpses of the explosiveness he displayed in his best days, but the team’s overall situation was anything but perfect.

They finished 6-11, losing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, navigating unknown seas in over a decade. Additionally, they lost Patrick Mahomes to an ACL injury, which became the final nail in the coffin.

Kelce stayed on the field with his teammates, but his statements made it seem as if he was done. Fortunately for Chiefs fans, he decided to run it back with the Chiefs. He credited Taylor Swift for his decision, but it looks like he didn’t take anyone’s influence into account.

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said he never doubted that Travis Kelce would return for another season.

“We played our last game of the season in Vegas last year, and when we got back we have player meetings and exit interviews. It was a cool deal where Trav came in and he basically said ‘I’m going to take a few weeks off here, but I’m not going out like this, let’s stay in touch and let’s figure something out.’ We certainly knew ahead of time,” Veach said.

“While free agency and there was still some questions in the air on whether or not he’d return, we knew basically the day after our last game. He made it known to coach Reid and to me that there was no way he was going out like this.”

He signed a three-year, $57 million deal with Kansas City after posting 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns in 2025.
