The New England Patriots have officially clinched the AFC East for the first time since 2019, and are in prime position to control the playoffs. After a dominant win over the Dolphins on Sunday, many around the league believe the Patriots are serious super bowl contenders. It is looking like there could be multiple home playoff games in Foxborough, and under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Vrabel, we could see a serious run at the Lombardi. So what are some things to keep an eye on? Let’s dive in.

What are some factors that could have huge impacts on the playoffs?

The NFL Playoffs are always incredibly unpredictable. There are so many factors that have huge impacts on the post-season, such as playoff experience, veteran leadership, and even weather to name a few. For example, with the Patriots hosting at least one home playoff game, January in Massachusetts can be harsh to say the least. This could be a huge advantage for New England since they have the advantage of practicing in these harsh elements, especially since they are hosting a warm weather opponent in round one in the Chargers. One of the bigger factors of playoff success is veteran leadership and team playoff experience. The Patriots are a very young team, and they haven’t made the playoffs since 2021. However, they have multiple veterans such as Stefon Diggs and Carlton Davis to name a couple, that have made serious playoff runs in their career. This is a huge help for a team that consists of a lot of young players that might not be sure what to expect.

One of the most important factors of this entire season has been Mike Vrabel, and he will continue to be incredibly important to the playoff run. This team goes to war for Vrabel each and every week, and there is no reason to doubt they won’t do the same in January. Vrabel has turned a four win team into one of the league’s best in a singular off-season. This is an accomplishment that not many coaches could have achieved, and Vrabel almost made it look easy. If there is any coach in the NFL that fans should trust in the post-season, it’s Vrabel. Patriots fans all over the globe should be very excited to see how Vrabel attacks the playoffs, and how well prepared he has this young New England team.

How will Drake Maye handle his first playoff run?

Drake Maye is staring down his first playoff run, and the entire NFL world is eager to see how the potential MVP handles it. Maye has had a historical second season, and has shown that he is the future of not just the Patriots, but the NFL as a whole. A New England playoff push led by Drake Maye is going to be must watch tv. Maye is a playmaker in every aspect of his game, and the Patriots are going to need him to be at his best to have a shot at the Lombardi. Something to keep an eye out for is Maye’s inexperience. He is only twenty-three years old and has never been to the playoffs. This could be an issue, but I believe if anybody will have him prepared, it’s Vrabel. If Maye makes a mistake such as throwing an interception, it will be very important that his coaches and teammates make sure he stays calm, cool, and collected, to be sure he doesn’t let one mistake in a big game snowball into multiple.

Nobody in the entire NFL world thought the Patriots would have such a great 2025 season. Many believed this would be a rebuilding year, and New England would be lucky to win half their games. Obviously the Patriots have exceeded expectations so far, and they are looking to make a serious title run. This is entirely possible with one of the best quarterbacks in the league and one of the best coaches in the league. Patriots fans everywhere should be very excited and optimistic about their Super Bowl chances with Vrabel leading the charge. Luckily, fans only have to wait a few more days to see how their team performs when the bright lights turn on, and the NFL Playoffs officially begin.
