The New England Patriots put forth another solid performance this afternoon in Week 2 of the preseason on the road against the Minnesota Vikings. The Patriots prevailed 20-12. New England’s first-team offense scored a touchdown on its second drive of the game.
Second-year Quarterback Drake Maye finished 4-of-7 for 46 yards. Rookie Running Back TreVeyon Henderson continued his strong preseason showing. He had a rushing touchdown today and returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown last week. Veteran Quarterback Joshua Dobbs also played well. He went 11-of-16 for 106 yards and a passing touchdown. Dobbs will give Maye a strong veteran presence this year. Will the New England Patriots continue building on a strong preseason?
New England will look to usher in an era of success this regular season. They hired Mike Vrabel to be their head coach and had a busy free agency period. The Patriots signed veteran Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs, Cornerback Carlton Davis III, and Linebacker Robert Spillane. They also drafted the aforementioned Henderson and Offensive Tackle Will Campbell at No. 4 overall.
The first year without Bill Belichick at the helm did not go well. Jerod Mayo flamed out after one season, as the team looked like a rudderless ship. The New England Patriots turned to Vrabel to instill a new culture in Foxborough and help the once-proud franchise get back on track. The team’s success this year will hinge upon the ability of Maye to improve in year 2. He must avoid the dreaded “sophomore slump” for the team to reach its full potential.
Things are seemingly rounding into form for the 2025 New England Patriots. They will close out their preseason on the road against the New York Giants on August 21. The Patriots will then kick off the regular season at home on September 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
