New England Patriots reduce stadium capacity to 'about 20 percent'

On the same day that Philadephia sports fans learned they won't be attending games through at least February 2021 due to the worsening coronavirus pandemic, the New England Patriots followed in the footsteps of the Baltimore Ravens.

Via an official club statement, the Patriots announced reduced capacity guidelines at Gillette Stadium if fans are allowed to attend NFL games this fall:

Pending state and local approval, should Gillette Stadium be allowed to have fans in the stands this season, it is expected to host about 20 percent of its total capacity. Ticketed parties will be asked to maintain physical distancing of at least six feet from other parties, tickets will be arranged in blocks of 10 seats or less, and the first eight rows of stadium seats will not be used. Additionally, face coverings will be required at all times inside the stadium to keep all attendees safe.

The Patriots also suspended walk-up ticket sales, moved to mobile tickets only, and eliminated all parking fees.

Last week, the Ravens informed season-ticket holders that the M&T Bank Stadium capacity is temporarily reduced from around 71,000 seats to fewer than 14,000 if the club can welcome spectators for games.

ESPN's Mike Reiss wrote the Patriots likely will plan to permit between 13,000 and 14,000 customers this season.

The NFL and NFL Players Association continue to negotiate terms for the safe openings of training camp sessions later this month.
