Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is set to play Sunday, but he may not be out of the woods when it comes to significant injury concerns.
Several doctors around the NFL believe it is a question of “when, not if” Daniels will suffer another injury to his left elbow, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. While Daniels was cleared to play with a brace, other doctors believe he is likely to suffer a third dislocation of his left elbow, as he has already experienced the injury twice during his NFL career.
Daniels suffered the injury in a Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He has not played since then, but is expected to return to action Sunday against the New York Giants.
Daniels has downplayed any concerns about a long-term elbow injury. However, he suffered a first injury in Week 9 of last season, making the second injury this season even more concerning. Obviously, there is always a risk of injury in the NFL, but if Daniels is really at a heightened risk of a new problem, it could threaten to derail Washington’s season at any given moment.
Before the injury, Daniels had jumped out to an outstanding start to the season. He had three touchdowns in two games, though both were Commanders losses.
