The New Orleans Saints are beginning a new chapter in their franchise history.

With quarterback Derek Carr retiring in the offseason and the hiring of Kellen Moore as the team’s new head coach, there are plenty of uncertainty about the short and long-term outlook of New Orleans, which finished the 2024 NFL season with just five wins against 12 losses to end up last in the NFC South – the division that Drew Brees and the Saints used to rule.

Brees speaks about New Orleans Saints new head coach

Despite the downward trend of the Saints since Brees retired, the arrival of Moore to the franchise brings hope for New Orleans. Brees had nothing but great things to say about Moore, who was hired by New Orleans after he won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as an offensive coordinator.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Kellen,” Brees shared. “Look, I really respected Kellen Moore as a player when he was at Boise State. A guy whose the winningest college quarterback of all time. They were always going in as underdogs and beating teams that they had no business being on the field with back when he was playing. He was just kind of one of these methodical guys that you could see he has moxie and leadership skills. Obviously, he was a clutch performer. He’s just carried over all of those traits to being a coach.

The Saints have not been to the playoffs since Brees’ last season in the NFL in 2020, while also finishing in the bottom half of the standings in the NFC South twice.
