New York Giants Quarterback Russell Wilson Has a Strong Preseason Showing

New York Giants Quarterback Russell Wilson was his vintage self tonight at home against the New York Jets. He finished 4-of-7 with 108 yards and an interception. He played four series and showed flashes of the player he was earlier in his career with the Seattle Seahawks. The veteran QB was better tonight after going 6-of-7 for 28 yards in last week’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. Has he locked up the starting quarterback job this preseason?

Wilson Has a Rookie On His Tail

The New York Giants had an interesting offseason at the quarterback position. They signed Wilson and Jameis Winston. They also drafted Jaxson Dart No. 25 overall in April. Even though Head Coach Brian Daboll has remained steadfast in Russ being the Week 1 starter, Dart’s performance in the preseason has given the team a great deal to think about.

Dart went 12-of-19 with 154 yards and a passing touchdown last week against the Bills. Dart added 137 passing yards and another passing touchdown this evening against the Jets. He was also an extremely efficient 14-of-16 at the time of publication. If Wilson was not the starter entering camp, the rookie may be the one getting the Week 1 nod. He has outperformed the Super Bowl champion in the preseason.

Final Thoughts

New York closes out its preseason on August 21 against the New England Patriots. With Wilson presumably starting against the Washington Commanders to begin the regular season, the preseason has not swayed who the starter will be. Even though that is the case, it will force the veteran QB to play well to begin the year. If not, the rookie will lead the team sooner rather than later.
