John Harbaugh is preparing for his first year as the New York Giants head coach during the 2026 NFL offseason. After spending 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the two parted ways Jan. 6 after an 8-9 finish to the 2025 season. Harbaugh became the winningest coach in Baltimore franchise history, posting a 180-113 regular-season record that included 12 trips to the playoffs.
On Jan. 17, not even two weeks after leaving Baltimore, Harbaugh was hired by New York to lead the team. Harbaugh has been hard at work, leading the Giants’ war room during the 2026 NFL Draft. On Monday, the Giants reacted to another offseason event involving their head coach.
Over the weekend, Harbaugh visited his alma mater, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The 63-year-old graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1984. Harbaugh also played for the RedHawks football team as a defensive back. On Saturday, Harbaugh gave a commencement speech to the graduating Class of 2026 as the keynote speaker. He also received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the university. New York celebrated its head coach attending the event, taking to social media to react to the news.
“Coach Harbaugh returned to his alma mater,” the Giants wrote on X. “To deliver the commencement speech ”
The Pioneer High School graduate led the Ravens to six AFC North division championships, four AFC championship game appearances and a Super Bowl victory in 2013. The Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers notably came against his brother, Jim Harbaugh. New York hopes Harbaugh can recreate similar success for a Giants organization that has had only one winning season in the last nine years.
