The New York Giants signed No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter to his rookie contract Thursday afternoon. His contract is four years for a fully-guaranteed 45.25 million. Carter is expected to be a cornerstone of the New York Giants defense for years to come.
Carter also holds himself in high regard. He reportedly reached out to franchise legends Phil Simms and Lawrence Taylor to wear their hallowed numbers during his tenure. Ultimately they both rebuked the rookie’s request. How will Carter fare with the Giants in 2025?

New York is coming off a disappointing 3-14 finish last season. They will look like a completely different team heading into the upcoming season. Carter will be a big part of that. He will team up with pass rushers Dexter Lawrence II and Kayvon Thibodeaux to create a ferocious defense. While New York’s offense may be a work in progress, they must rely on their defense to get through a brutal schedule.
Carter’s rookie contract is commensurate with the expectations of his high draft position. He will look to have an impact similar to that of Taylor, and help left the New York Giants leap out of irrelevance. He has the talent to do so. Now the hard work of living up to that potential begins.
