New York Jets 53-man roster projection after second preseason game
Lucas Boland-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets now have two preseason games in the books, which means there is only one more game left for players to prove themselves and earn a spot on the roster.

That opportunity will come on Saturday, Aug. 24 against the New York Giants.

With the games that we have already seen, however, it's now easier to tell who may be in or out following end-of-training camp cuts.

Here's a look at my latest projections for the Jets' 2024 53-man roster.

53-Man Roster Prediction

Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark (97) tackles New York Jets running back Breece Hall (20) during their football game on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. Wm. Glasheen USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin Apc Green Bay Vs Jets 39729 101622wag

Defense

Defensive Line (5) - Quinnen Williams, Javon Kinlaw, Solomon Thomas, Leki Fotu, Leonard Taylor III

Edge (5) - Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald IV, Micheal Clemons, Takk McKinley, Eric Watts**

Watts will make the team out of camp and be released if/when Haason Reddick reports **

Linebacker (5) - C.J. Mosley, Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood, Sam Eguavoen, Chazz Surratt

Cornerback (7) - Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, Michael Carter II, Brandin Echols, Qwan’tez Stiggers, Jarrick Bernard-Converse, Brandon Codrington

Safety (4) - Chuck Clark, Tony Adams, Ashtyn Davis, Isaiah Oliver

Specialists (3) - Greg Zuerlein (K), Thomas Morstead (P), Thomas Hennessy (LS)

One of the biggest question marks for this team remain what will happen with Haason Reddick.  If Reddick reports, the Jets will likely lose one of the defensive linemen to make room for him.  I could see it being Watts, McKinley or Leonard Taylor III.

On the offensive side I could see the Jets keeping a 10th offensive linemen considering what happened last year.  Isreal Abanikanda was a tough cut, but I think the rookie running backs have supplanted him on the depth chart.  The Jets will look to keep Anthony Firkser as hybrid tight end/full back.  It's also possible they look to use Jeremy Ruckertt in that role.

The last player I had making the roster was Brandon Codrington.  After what he showed as a returner against the Carolina Panthers, it may be too enticing for Saleh not to use him in that position.  Xavier Gipson is likely still the teams top return man or perhaps even the rookie Isaiah Davis.
