New York Jets Buzz Is Connecting Them To Former 1,000-Yard Wide Receiver
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets have been busy this offseason and it appears that they will do everything it takes to get back to the playoffs in 2024. With Aaron Rodgers returning from a brutal Achilles injury, the Jets have been focused on getting him as much help as possible. Joe Douglas has gotten aggressive and will likely look to continue being aggressive if the right moves present themselves.

So far this offseason, the Jets have already signed free agent wide receiver Mike Williams. That move alone gives the New York offense a much higher potential ceiling. Could they look to sign another free agent wideout?

Bleacher Report recently listed an intriguing former 1,000-yard free agent wide receiver as a realistic target for the Jets. That wide receiver, of course, is former Las Vegas Raiders wideout Hunter Renfrow.

Why Hunter Renfrow Could Make Perfect Sense For The New York Jets

Just a few short years ago, Renfrow was viewed as one of the top up-and-coming wide receivers in the NFL. Back in 2021, Renfrow put up a monstrous season for the Raiders. He caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

Since then, however, Renfrow has been a relative no-show for Las Vegas. That led to the team parting ways with him this offseason.

Why was he unable to continue producing at a high level? One of the biggest reasons is that his skill-set simply did not fit into the Raiders’ offensive scheme anymore. He’s more of a possessions and slot wide receiver than any kind of a big-play threat.

With a quarterback like Rodgers, Renfrow could find a way to revitalize his career. Even though Rodgers is more than capable of being a big play quarterback, he is well-known to utilize underneath routes at a high level. Renfrow would fit into that role well.

There is no question that Renfrow would be a good fit alongside Rodgers, but the question becomes, do the New York Jets have a need for another receiver? Currently, they have Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, Malachi Corley, and Allen Lazard. Adding Renfrow might cause the same kind of logjam that he found himself in with Las Vegas.

All of that being said, the Jets do make sense if they visualize a legitimate role for Renfrow. He could be a nice weapon for Rodgers and it seems like New York wants as many weapons as they can get.

It will be interesting to see which team decides to give Renfrow another shot. Will it be the New York Jets? We’ll just have to wait and see.
