With roster cuts looming as teams make final preparations for the 2025 NFL season, the Packers could be perfectly positioned to acquire future draft capital to offload a player from one of their deepest position groups.
Despite Christian Watson still working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in Week 18 of the 2024 campaign, the Packers have built one of the deepest corps in the league– in terms of potential contributors, including rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, with young ascending talent including Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks, before even considering Watson and veteran Mecole Hardman’s potential roles this upcoming season.
One team that isn’t nearly that loaded at receiver is the New York Jets.
As new head coach Aaron Glen approaches his first season, and the Jets turn to quarterback Justin Fields, the cupboard is pretty bare behind ascending star Garrett Wilson, at receiver.
If the regular season kicked off today, the Jets would be fielding Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, Tyler Johnson, and Malachi Corley as their top receivers.
In all likeihood, the Jets will be shopping for receiver help, and there is little reason to doubt that the Packers could add a draft pick for a receiver such as Wicks or Doubs in a trade before Week 1.
