New York Jets Massive NFL Draft Plans Were Foiled 1 Pick Ahead Of Them
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets were very pleased with their selection of offensive lineman Olu Fashanu with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While they were thrilled to add more protection for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it appears that they had another plan that they would have preferred. Unfortunately, their “Plan A” was foiled by the Chicago Bears just one pick ahead of them.

According to a report from ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, the Jets were hoping to take standout wide receiver Rome Odunze with their 10th pick. Chicago ended up taking him to pair with No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.

“The sense around the league is the Jets were pretty set on Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu at No. 10 overall … unless Washington receiver Rome Odunze was available. The people I’ve talked to believe the Jets would have jumped at Odunze, though they correctly figured Chicago was taking him there.”

Losing out on a draft pick just one pick ahead of you is one of the most frustration parts of a draft. While the Jets definitely got a good player with their pick, Odunze would have provided them with a dynamic weapon.

The Outlook For The New York Jets In 2024

While they did not get the extra firepower for Rodgers that they were hoping in Odunze, bringing in more protection was a must as well. Fashanu will have a good chance to be an immediate starter on the Jets’ offensive line.

Just like last offseason, the Jets are receiving a ton of hype surrounding their status as a sleeper Super Bowl contender. Of course, all of that hype depends on the health of Rodgers and how he rebounds from his brutal Achilles injury last season.

Offensively, the New York Jets were able to add Malachi Corley in the draft, who is expected to be able to make an impact as a rookie as well. Mike Williams was signed in free agency to add more weaponry as well. Garrett Wilson is still in town as well and Allen Lazard will be back for his second season with the Gang Green.

Looking at the roster, the Jets have plenty of talent to put up numbers on the offensive side of the ball. They also are loaded with defensive talent.

If the New York Jets live up to their full potential, there is no doubt that they can compete in the AFC. They should be a very entertaining team to watch.

Even with missing out on Odunze, the draft fell a positive way for the Jets. Olu Fashanu is no slouch of a pick.
