The New York Giants made the surprise decision to trade back into the end of the first round of the NFL Draft last night to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.
To say that it was a controversial move among Giants fans might be putting it mildly.
This morning, WFAN radio host Greg Giannotti went off on some callers who tried to convince Giannotti to give Dart a chance. But Giannotti wasn't having it. He bashed fans who tried making positive comparisons and went off on everyone trying to defend him.
“Seriously. You’re a Giants fan so you’re gonna suck off every one of their picks,” Giannotti screamed. “‘He’s from Ole Miss, like Eli!’ You’re probably one of those sickos who sat there and defended Daniel Jones for six freaking years. Get over it.
“He’s a pudgy, Utah clapper. ‘How many games at Ole Miss?’ I don’t need to watch any games at Ole Miss! How many games at BYU did I watch Zach Wilson play? Zero and I knew he was gonna suck! And he did!”
At one point, a caller tried to put Giannotti on the spot by asking him how many of Dart's games he watched. He dismissed the question by pointing out that even analysts who watched Dart's tape agreed that he isn't going to be any good.
“How many Ole Miss games did Jon Gruden watch of Jaxson Dart?” Giannotti asked. “And I’ll tell you right now he thinks he stinks.
“How many times have you watched him play Mike?!?” he said, addressing the caller. “How many times have you watched him?? How many times??”
Giannotti ultimately dismissed Dart entirely by calling him a "system quarterback" who worked with Lane Kiffin's offense at Ole Miss and believes that Dart is more likely to end up like Matt Corral (who never played in the NFL) than anyone else.
Dart saw his draft stock skyrocket in the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft but he wasn't viewed particularly highly prior to the 2024 season. Granted, not many quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft were.
It appears that, much like the Giant's decision to draft Daniel Jones back in 2019, the decision to take Dart is going to take a while for fans to really come to accept.
