The San Francisco 49ers are left building their roster and re-tooling their coaching staff after missing out on the postseason this year.
The Detroit Lions - thought to be a legitimate contender for their first Super Bowl win this season - lost to the Commanders in the Divisional Round last weekend, sending Lions fans and players home unhappy.
Now that Detroit has started working on its 2025 season, changes are coming to the roster in anticipation of training camp.
The Lions announced on Thursday that they are adding former 49ers wideout Ronnie Bell to their roster via a futures contract. Once the Super Bowl is done, Bell will be added to the team's 90-man offseason roster.
San Francisco selected Bell in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft before he played all 17 games for the 49ers that season. The former Michigan Wolverine caught six passes for 68 yards and three touchdowns.
He returned in 2024 to catch two balls for 22 yards across nine games but finished the season on the practice squad.
Other wideouts expected to join Bell on the offseason roster in Detroit include Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, Antoine Green, and Tom Kennedy.
