The Buffalo Bills lost their chance to land a potential big-time hidden gem thanks to the quick action of the Green Bay Packers.
Earlier this week, Green Bay signed Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma after the University of Wilfrid Laurier product had a successful rookie minicamp tryout.
Elgersma, who was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round of the 2025 Canadian Football League last week, passed for 4,252 yards with 35 touchdowns, seven rushing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions this past season.
The Buffalo Bills were slated to have Elgersma in town for a rookie minicamp tryout this week, but the Packers didn't let the under-the-radar talent leave Green Bay without a contract.
QB Taylor Elgersma was originally going to attend #Bills rookie minicamp, but he was impressive last week at the #Packers’ rookie minicamp is expected to sign with Green Bay.

Elgersma was a Canadian QB that was invited to the Senior Bowl this year based on his talent. The kid… https://t.co/S1pdGhDVM4
Elgersma obviously wasn't a big need for the Bills thanks to the presence of franchise quarterback Josh Allen, but he's still a player that presents interesting upside.
And, as we all know, NFL teams are always just one snap away from needing a backup quarterback to be the guy.
The Bills have a solid backup quarterback in Mitch Trubisky, but who knows -- maybe Elgersma is a future star. Had the Bills been able to land Elgersma, he could've (potentially) been a valuable trade chip.
We'll see how Elgersma develops in Green Bay. Maybe he proves to be a dud, but if ends up being a stud, he'll be one that got away in Buffalo.
