Cowboys

Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer feels WR George Pickens needs to block better in the run game to help his running backs, who often have to pick up blitzes so he can get the ball in the passing game.

“He needs to understand that he impacts us in the running game as well. He’s got to do the same thing in the run game, picking up safeties and blocking corners, just like Javonte (Williams) does, picking up blitzes so he can catch balls,” Schottenheimer said, via Jon Machota.

“That’s part of the team-first mindset, and GP does understand that. When he’s going, they’re going to play soft inside. When he’s not going then the safeties get pretty good runs at our backs. And that’s got to improve.”

  • Cowboys OC Klayton Adams on how he’s seen HC Brian Schottenheimer handle adversity: “He’s tough as nails, man. He’s been around this. He’s seen his dad do it. He’s worked for the Jets, he had his time in Seattle. He’s tough. It’s good for me to see how it’s supposed to be done.” (Harris)
  • Cowboys G Tyler Booker was fined $11,941 for unnecessary roughness.

Giants

The Giants are set to start QB J.J. McCarthy in Week 7. New York HC John Harbaugh explained they decided McCarthy is who gives them the best chance to win and it is the “right time” to make a move.

“I would say, like every other personnel decision we make, [it’s] what gives us the best chance to win the football game at this given time,” Harbaugh said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “It was pretty evident to me, self-evident, that it was the right time.”

Jameis Winston finished with 152 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in their Week 6 loss to the Saints. Winston admitted that he didn’t play well enough and understands Harbaugh’s decision.

“I believe that last game, it wasn’t what it was capable of being,” Winston said. “I think every single week as a football team, you’re defined off of the last time you stepped foot on the field. So, I believe that based off last game, my job is to lead the New York Football Giants to a win, and that didn’t happen. So that being said, I understand where I’m at now.”

Harbaugh thinks McCarthy allows them to run a similar offense to what they run with Jaxson Dart.

“The elements that we’re talking about with some of the read plays and some of the different things you do moving the quarterback around, those are definitely things that are part of the equation,” Harbaugh said.

Giants

Giants HC John Harbaugh confirmed that QB J.J. McCarthy will be the starting quarterback moving forward.

“Life is day-to-day, minute-to-minute,” Harbaugh said, via PFT. “There’s really no guarantees. I would never say that anything is permanent in football or life. That’s the plan going forward.”

  • Giants RB Cam Skattebo on being benched: “I think I got taught a lesson. I don’t know if that’s from them or from myself, but I kind of had to step back and look at it and figure out why I was doing the things I was doing, what was happening.” (Carroll)
  • Giants TE Thomas Fidone was fined $5,791 for unnecessary roughness.
