The NFL’s Chief Medical Officer, Allen Sills, defended the Eagles’ handling of QB Jalen Hurts‘ situation and the superficial blood clot keeping him sidelined.
“I have complete confidence in the Eagles’ medical staff and their handling of this situation, and I would characterize their work as very conservative, very patient-focused and appropriately guarded at every step,” Sills said, via The Athletic. “I don’t think you can take that outcome and say there was something flawed about the process. Sometimes in medicine, we do all the right things and diseases progress and other things develop.”
“In this case, everyone was incredibly conservative and incredibly vigilant and was very quick to make diagnoses of these conditions that might not have been diagnosed in a nonathlete,” Sills added. “Quite frankly, you or I might have walked around with this condition without a diagnosis.”
Falcons DL coach Nate Ollie says that after learning a new defensive scheme, he has no plans to coach any other way going forward and will follow former Browns DC Jim Schwartz‘s philosophy.
“That’s the first time I learned about the attack-style defense,” Ollie noted, via The Athletic. “And I was like, ‘I don’t want to coach defense any other way.’ That’s my style, my energy. More than anything, the attack style is a mindset. Get off the football and blow stuff up along the way.”
Giants DC Dennard Wilson made harsh comments about his defense and how they performed in Week 6, yet they rebounded to beat the Texans the following Sunday.
“Last week was one of our worst tackling games, for whatever reason. A few plays got out, especially in the pass game, because of missed tackles. And I wasn’t happy with our effort running to the ball. We put some stuff on tape that was not characteristic of a New York Giant defense. It’s unacceptable, and it will be changed,” Wilson said, via Giants Wire. “I look at guys that don’t run to the ball, and I call them traitors because they’re traitors to the defense. At the end of the day, when you have a traitor to the defense, you either have to make adjustments to get them off the field, you have to get somebody else on the field, or they have to correct their behavior. The guys know it, and this week when you see them out there, they will be flying around 100 miles per hour with their hair on fire.”
