Cowboys
Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer shot down rumors that senior assistant Mike Pettine was brought in to help call plays and run the defense.
“Christian Parker is our defensive coordinator and all decisions will run through him,” Schottenheimer said, via PFT, adding, “No question we have the right guy.”
- Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said Parker will be moving to the coaching booth during games. When asked about the situation, Schottenheimer responded that they haven’t made any decision and there is a “good chance” for Parker to stay on the sideline: “None of those decisions have been finalized. There’s a good chance Christian is on the field.” (Jon Machota)
- Parker talked about hiring Pettine after Pettine gave him his first NFL job in Green Bay: “I know how to talk to him. He knows how to talk to me. We’ve been in the trenches together, good and bad. So yeah, it’s really beneficial.” (Ed Werder)
- Parker was asked what has surprised him about the defense through five games: “Overall just some uncharacteristic things going from the spring to training camp that we didn’t really do relative to whether it’s execution, whether it’s the fundamental detail, me in terms of getting a call in on time, things like that.” (Todd Archer)
- Parker thinks everything is fixable because the mistakes are controllable: “Some things were not just as buttoned up, and you didn’t really see that coming just based off the performance previously. So I think that’s when you got to step back and figure out, ‘OK how can we get back to what we were doing in that mode?’ Sometimes what happens is you get into a season and you’re so worried about the opponent, (but) you’ve got to worry about yourself and what you’re doing internally. It’s been a lot of self-inflicted wounds these first five games by us.” (Archer)
Eagles
Eagles HC Nick Sirianni deflected blame from first-year OC Sean Mannion and said that the team’s offensive struggles are a collective issue.
“I think that right now, offensively, we all have to be better,” Sirianni said, via Eagles Wire. “Players, coaches, myself — all of us have to be better. We’re not worried about gauging where this person is or where that person is. We’re worried about growth.”
- According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Eagles OLB Jalyx Hunt didn’t suffer a season-ending injury, but he is slated to miss some time.
- The Eagles designated G Landon Dickerson to return from injured reserve on Wednesday. When asked if Dickerson will regain his starting left guard role when he returns, Sirianni said they still have time to make that decision: “We have so much time to discuss those things, but Landon is a hell of a player. He’s been a hell of a player for us. You got to see where you are at that particular time.” (Zach Berman)
- Dickerson was asked if he thinks the team still views him as the long-term option at LG: “That’s a great question. Do they have a media day for Nick [Sirianni] and Howie [Roseman]? You can ask them that.” (Zach Berman)
