NFC team already being linked to Kyler Murray

The Arizona Cardinals have officially pulled the plug on the Kyler Murray era.

The team will release him at the start of the new league year on March 11, paying him $36.8 million before an additional $19.5 million became guaranteed.

As such, he will be free to sign with whoever he wants, and just like Russell Wilson when the Denver Broncos cut him, he can essentially sign for the minimum because the Cardinals will still pay his salary.

Considering that, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shed light on Murray's situation, stating that the Minnesota Vikings will be at the top of his list of potential destinations.

The Minnesota Vikings may make a run at Kyler Murray

"He's gonna cost whichever team he lands nothing," Rapoport said. "...There's gonna be someone who believes they can get the best out of him and use him as the starter for several years. A place to keep an eye on would be the Minnesota Vikings."

Rapoport explained that the Vikings want to bring in some veteran competition for the struggling J.J. McCarthy.

They've had second thoughts about the Michigan product, who missed seven games and was erratic when healthy enough to play last season.

The Vikings went from winning 14 games with Sam Darnold to winning nine and missing the playoffs with their young signal caller last season.

Murray has also dealt with some ailments in the past, but he's still a talented, athletic quarterback who can be Kevin O'Connell's next reclamation project.

There should be a strong market for the former No. 1 pick, and the Vikings clearly have enough incentives to make him a strong offer.
