Kirk Cousins has appeared to accept his fate as Atlanta's backup quarterback as he was a full participant in Falcons mandatory minicamp two weeks ago.
While Cousins is being a good soldier and making the best out if his situation, hope isn't completely lost for him being a starting QB in 2025. While listing his 10 bold predictions for the upcoming season, NFL analyst Jeffri Chadiha predicted that the Falcons will end up trading Cousins to a QB-needy team at some point during the year.
From Jeffri Chadiha: "It's so difficult to navigate an NFL season, and it's a safe bet that some hopeful team eventually will need quarterback help because of injury. Prescott was one of four different signal-callers who didn't finish last season because of injury. Two years ago, the Browns started five quarterbacks, while the Vikings and Jets each started four. It's a fact of life: Quarterbacks go down in this league. This is why Cousins has a decent shot of playing some place this year. It didn't work out in Atlanta -- the Falcons gave him $100 million in guaranteed money as a free agent last offseason and then gave his job to rookie Michael Penix Jr. for the final three games -- but the franchise didn't deal Cousins over the past few months. That leaves him trying to play the good soldier as a backup until a viable opportunity arises. If history tells us anything, some team will come calling for him sooner or later."
This would be a win-win for both sides, as Atlanta could get Cousins' contract off the books, and Cousins can get one last shot at being a starter and going after the Super Bowl ring that has eluded him throughout his 13-year NFL career. There is also the possibly of Cousins getting thrusted back in as the Falcons' starting QB if Michael Penix Jr., who has an extensive injury history dating back to his collegiate days, were to get hurt.
