NFL announces Chiefs-Bengals for New Year's Eve

If you make New Year's Eve plans in May, this is an important announcement.

The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the CBS primetime slot, the NFL announced Wednesday.

The New Year's Eve contest will be the fifth installment of Burrow vs. Mahomes, in which Burrow leads 3-1, though the Chiefs defeated the Bengals in their most recent outing in last year's AFC Championship Game.

All of the first four games have been decided by three points. The decision to place the Chiefs and Bengals in Week 17 makes sense as both teams plan to play important football at that time.

The full NFL schedule is set to be released Thursday evening. It will be interesting to see if the NFL decides to schedule a night game on New Year's Eve. The last time the NFL did that was in 2006 when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears. Maybe it will decide to have a game out West, where it wraps up before 9 p.m. local time.

Nonetheless, the Chiefs-Bengals likely will be the game of the week, and the NFL made sure to let everyone know early.

Also on Wednesday, the NFL released Kansas City will play the Miami Dolphins in Germany on November 5. That means no Tyreek Hill return to Arrowhead Stadium.
