If the Philadelphia Eagles are going to save their season in the coming weeks, they’ll have to do so without Jalen Hurts.

Five days ago, the Eagles ruled out Hurts for Week 6 due to a superficial blood clot. A few days later, Hurts’ agent and the Eagles revealed that he’ll miss the rest of the year since multiple blood clots were discovered in his lungs.

“Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis,” the statement from his agent and the team read. “After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. … During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.”

When this update was made public Monday, the Eagles were accused of mishandling Hurts’ situation – especially since he played Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the NFL has concluded that Hurts’ health situation was “handled appropriately.” As a result, the Eagles won’t face any discipline from the league.

What’s next for Hurts and the Eagles?

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapport, the current treatment plan for Hurts involves him being on blood thinners for at least three months. He’s expected to make a full recovery.

As for the Eagles, they’ll lean on Tanner McKee at quarterback for the rest of the season. He completed 26 of 45 passes in Week 6 for 215 yards and a touchdown.

“I haven’t been without Jalen for an extended period of time,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “I have the utmost confidence in Tanner, but I miss him. I miss him, and I know that will be the case because Jalen and I have been together, head coach and quarterback, for six years, so that’s natural.”

The Eagles will face the Dallas Cowboys next Monday night.
