Quinnen Williams and the New York Jets have struggled heavily to begin the 2025 NFL season, falling to 0-3 after a 29-27 loss to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. Still, Williams remains one of New York's defensive leaders, tallying 12 tackles, 1.0 sacks and four tackles for loss.
With 8:27 remaining in the first quarter against the Buccaneers, Williams brought down Tampa Bay running back Bucky Irving for no gain. However, the former Alabama defensive tackle had grabbed Irving by the facemask, resulting in a 15-yard penalty.
For his facemask penalty, the NFL announced on Saturday that Williams has been hit with an $11,593 fine for his "unnecessary roughness" in the first quarter.
But Williams wasn't done there. With 7:19 remaining in the third, the Jets star, once again, brought down Irving at the line of scrimmage. While no penalty was called, the NFL still fined Williams $17,389 for a "hip drop tackle." This brings Williams' total Week 3 fines to $28,982.
Williams wasn't the only NFL player charged for a hip drop tackle in Week 3. Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Devin White was fined $6,500 for the same offense.
"The NFL fined the Jets’ Quinnen Williams $17,389 and fined the Raiders’ Devin White $6,500 for hip-drop tackles in Week 3," The Washington Post's Mark Maske wrote on X.

Buccaneers defensive back Antoine Winfield was also fined $17,389 for a "blow to the head/neck" of Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor, while linebacker Deion Jones was hit with a $6,972 penalty for a "facemask."
Williams and the Jets will continue their search for the first win of the 2025 season in Week 4, facing the Miami Dolphins on "Monday Night Football."
