As training camp nears, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler continues to release the results of a survey involving more than 70 NFL coaches, executives, and scouts ranking the league’s top players by position.
In Wednesday’s installment centered around the wide receiver position, New York Jets star Garrett Wilson, who recently signed a four-year extension to stay in New York, cracked the top 10, landing at No. 10 on the list. It is an improvement from last year, where he ranked as an honorable mention.
An AFC executive praised Wilson’s separation skills, calling the Ohio State product one of the best separators in the league. An AFC scout was more critical, stating, “All over the map — does his own thing on the field. Vast potential, [but he’s] not close to what he could be.”
At just 24 years old, Wilson has already cemented his place among the NFL’s most reliable pass catchers, eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons despite catching passes from eight different quarterbacks.
Since entering the league in 2022, the former first-round pick ranks seventh in receptions (270) and 10th in receiving yards (3,249), production that helped earn him a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets, including $90 million guaranteed.
Set to reunite with former Ohio State teammate Justin Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million deal with New York this offseason, Wilson aims to become the first receiver in New York’s history to post four straight 1,000-yard seasons.
Now armed with a new contract and a familiar face at quarterback, Wilson has his sights set on rewriting Jets history.
